Welcome!!!

Hi everyone and welcome to Alyssa's blog. This page has been designed to update you on Alyssa's progress. Her surgery to close her VSD (hole in her heart) is scheduled for Monday, July 16th (changed to Tuesday, July 17th) at 12:00 (changed to 7:30a.m.). She will be at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital.

Testing, Testing, Testing

So....It was a very long day at the hospital but everything went well. Alyssa was suprisingly pleasant despite her dislike for doctors. We toured the hospital(although we're hardly strangers to the place) and Alyssa had blood tests, x-rays, etc.... We talked extensively about the surgery and what to expect before, during, and after. The average patient has a 5-7 day hospital stay. While Alyssa may require slighly longer than that, we are hopeful that it will be a relatively short stay. Finally, we feel confident that everything will go well and our little angel's heart will be successfully repaired!

Just wanted to drop a line and let you know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time. You just have to leave it in God's hands. Everything will be okay.

Heather: I will be thinking of Alyssa, you and your family. I know exactly what you're going through. It's been a little over a year since our daughter had her 2 open heart surgeries and spent 3 months in the PICU. If Dr. Hennein is doing the surgery - he does a good job. Toni and Martha (the Ped Nurse Practioners) are very nices and provide updates. Call me if you need to talk. Alyssa is a strong little girl. I learned that our children are so much stronger than we are throughout this expereince. Remember - you are not alone. Ask for "Jeff" - he is the male nurse that cares for most of the cardiology babies after surgery. he is awesome.

Be strong.

Heather, James, and Alyssa,
Our thoughts and prayers are always with you. I have put in a prayer request with the St. John Neumann's prayer group. With all the prayers and good thoughts I know God will hear us and everything will be okey and surgery will be successful. Stay strong and we all love you guys!
